Terrapointe PointersTerrapointe is a small hobby kennel--our dogs are family first, and live in the home with us. We have 10 acres that the dogs can run on regularly, and in the evenings they can be found piled on the couch with us. We are both veterinarians and make health and temperament a priority in our breeding program. Although generally a very healthy breed, Pointers are known to get hip and elbow dysplasia, hypothyroidism, seizures, and auto-immune conditions. All of our breeding dogs have at a minimum OFA hips and elbows cleared prior to breeding, and OFA thyroid or full thyroid panel at an OFA approved lab done every other year. We stand behind our dogs and do our very best to ensure we are breeding the healthiest, happiest Pointers possible.

How it all began: |
Kate Hornick, DVM-- I started in dogs at a very young age with my parent's Scotties, and later, a Bull Terrier which I showed in 4-H and the occasional AKC show. When I finished vet school in 2003, I was eager to get back to showing dogs. I wanted an athletic, healthy, short coated and congenial dog--after all those years with terriers, I was ready for something that got along well with other dogs! After some consideration, I decided the Pointer was a good fit. I was very fortunate to find a show quality male available from Peggy Davis, (MyKyna Pointers) and the rest is history! Our kennel name, Terrapointe, reflects my beginning in terriers, and while we don't actively breed them, we do also have a few Border Terriers here as well. (Once a terrier person, always a terrier person, I suppose!) Kasie Podojil, DVM is more the silent partner--you won't see her in the show ring, (ever!! except under extreme duress!:)) but she is actively involved in raising litters, and has recently taken us into a little side trip into the world of Toy Poodles! Her pride and joy, Vinnie, can be seen on his page. We are both members of the American Pointer Club since 2003; where Kate has served as a board member previously, and is currently the chair of the Veterinary Scholarship Committee and a member of the Health Committee; we are also members of the Ohio Hall of Fame Pointer club since its beginnings in 2005, where Kate has served as vice president and most recently as treasurer.
